I received a G2 Throttle Cam System for product review, loaned it to a racer friend of mine and this is what he had to say:

Product review: Throttle Cam System - G2 Ergonomics
http://www.g2ergo.com

A billet aluminum throttle tube with interchangeable “cams” or “pulleys” that affect the ratio between hand throttle movement and carburetor slide opening.

General Comments
Fit/Finish – Great quality machine work. It seemed a shame to cover this pretty piece with a throttle housing and grip.

Installation – very easy on the 2 stroke, but a little more difficult for the 450. However, after changing cams a few times, I was making cam changes to the 450 in under 3 minutes.

First ride (250SX) – per the “First Ride Recommendations”
by G2, I went to a familiar practice moto track and rode for 15 minutes with the 100 cam (same as stock). Then I switched to the 400cam, which is the least aggressive cam for mud and slippery conditions. Initially, I could tell a subtle difference most noticeable in hard pack corners. Next, the instructions had me go back to the 100 cam (stock), which would give me a benchmark of the difference between 100 & 400. Holy cow! The bike felt more “pipey” than I remembered, which was cool until I hit the first corner. I couldn’t seem to feed the power as smoothly as with the 400 cam. This is where the reduced radius 200 & 400 cams shine brightest – in the corners.

Next I tried the 200 cam, which is between the 100 (stock)and the 400. At this point I was more attuned to what was going on in my right hand and could see where the 200 would work best – maybe on intermediate terrain. On the hard pack, I really preferred the 400. G2 also offers a 300 cam if you want to really get picky, or a 500 cam for very slick
conditions. However, the 200 and 400 cams work fine for me. I can’t
see ANY reason to use the stock 100 cam. Maybe for deep sand?

First ride (450EXC) – same routine, but I chose an easy ˝ mile woods course. A few rocks, logs and hills were thrown in, but nothing
that would frighten a novice. In the woods this system works even better than the moto track. The bike seemed far more predictable with the 200 and 400 cams. Maybe the 400 cam was a little to unaggressive for the great trail conditions, but I would definately throw it on for muddy conditions.

General impressions – This system really alters your perception of your
bike’s power. Really. With the 400 cam, I would have swore the bike had a flywheel weight while feeding power through the corners. However, when I went WFO in the straights, it was apparent that there was no heavy flywheel weight slowing me down.

Bottom line – The ability to change the throttle ratio
for different conditions far exceeded my expectations. I would recommend for anyone who can use more control, and unless you can beat Lafferty, Juha or Carmichael, you can always use more control.

I could not agree more about the G2 throttle cam. It is a great product. I use it on my 200exc. I use the 200 cam and it allows me to roll corners better without breaking the wheel loose. The 200exc is known for a mid "hit" and although that "hit" can put a grin on you face pretty fast, it can also be a burden in race situations, especially when trying to rail a corner and trying to keep the back wheel to the ground without squirting out. The throttle cam allows me to smooth out the amount of throttle I want to use in a given situation. When you open it up all the way, it's the same as stock. Controlling the power is the name of the game and this product allows you to do just that. Big thumbs up here! thumb.gif

Thanks for posting this Pat. Sam (G2 Ergo) is a great guy with a great product.

Does this cam system change the degrees of throttle rotation or just change the ratio in the 1/4 to 3/4 range. I would like more control in mid range but dont want to need to twist more to get full throttle.

The throttle pull remains the same, no matter which cam you are using. If you go to the website, it explains the concept of how it works. Awesome product. www.g2ergo.com

I kinda noticed the total rotation get a little bit longer with the higher cams.

Make sure when you go to the higher numbered cams, adjust the throttle cable a little to take up the slack. That may be why you think the rotation is further.

Thanks for the info, looks like I might buy one of these for my son's 200EXC. Sounds like this would smooth out the hit quite a bit for him too, right? Say, with the 400 cam for the woods? He's a definite novice and the 200 is actually a little more bike than he can handle right now, so i want to do as much as possible to make the bike more tame for trail riding. I already added a 12 oz flywheel weight.
Thanks fore your help!

WIwoodsrider, I think that the throttlecam would benefit your son greatly. I'm using the 200 cam, but they do now make a 300 cam. The 300 or 400 would be good for your son.

I just picked one up, but haven't removed it from the package yet. Can't wait to try it. cool.gif

Figured at the same time I'd remove the push cable from the thottle. Thing of it is there's two boots on the throttle housing. My first solution is to nylon tie them together and that looks like it will do the trick but can't get around the fact that it doesn't look quite right. Is there another throttle housing I should be using? Are you guys using two cables or just one with your RFS's?

OK - this is probably a dumb question, but I assume that you can still use handguards with them - just drill the end out like with the stock tube? Thanks for the info!

You don't even need to drill them! They have an aluminum cap on the end that pops off! Real simple.

I must be living right. I got home from work and their was a nice "gift" in the mail from G2 ergonomics to me. Anyway, this is a great product. I'm debating on weather to use the 200 or 300 cam this weekend. I have a race and I know it's going to be rocky, rutted, and rooted in a bad way. The stock cam is not an option, but the 300 might just be the ticket. We will see...
