No FREE email addresses - What's up with that?

Yep, thats correct. KTMTalk does not allow the use of free email addresses like gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc, at least not without prior approval.

Why? Because we had bad people, spammers, scammers, etc creating multiple accounts just to cause problems at the site. They would get banned for illegal activities, they'd go create a new free email address, and then sign up again with a new username so they could continue their chaos. So, a few bad apples ruined it for everyone.

Who has a "non-free" email address anymore?? You should have gotten one when you signed up with your internet provider.

Ok, now that you know that free email addresses are not allowed without prior approval... it's fairly easy to get approval:

Cannot Login, Lost Passwords, Old Email Addresses, Forgotten Usernames

Lost Passwords

My password does not work, or I forgot my password or my email address has changed.... What can I do?

If you lost or forgot your password, or if you need the password to be reset, you can click on the 'Forgotten Your Password' link. This link will appear on any page that requires you to fill in your password.

This link brings up a page where you should enter the email address that you had on file at KTMTalk. An email will then be sent to that address with instructions for resetting your password.

Since passwords are encrypted, there is no way to resend your original password. This option provides you with the ability to reset your password.

You must be able to receive emails at the email address that is on file at KTMTalk for this to work. You may need to check your spam filters and folder if you do not see this email in a few minutes.

NOTE: If you no longer have access to the email address that you registered with, or if you cannot remember what email address you used, or you can't remember your username, you can use the 'My old email address is no longer valid' link (or one of the other menu items at that page) to reset your email address so that you [can] use the 'Forgot Password' link.

All New Members Read - What you can and cannot do here at KTMTalk

Repeated from section "Questions asked a bazillion times.

As a new member at KTMTalk, there are some limitations as to what you can do and what you cannot do.

Before we start though - KTMTalk is a NO-NONSENSE FORUM - there is a STRICT "NO BASHING, NO FLAMING" rule here at KTMtalk - if you find the need to start attacking somone on a personal basis, your posting privledges will be suspended without warning.

As a new member, you have a few restrictions.

NOTE: Team KTMTalk Members (members who have donated to the site) do NOT have ANY restrictions - if you are interested in becoming a Team KTMTalK Member, click the Join Team KTMTalk button at the top of every page here at KTMTalk

New Member Restrictions:

1. You will NOT be able to post anything NEW in the for-sale categories. Why? Because we had people signing up just so they could list their bikes for sale and then never coming back - not even to read the replies from others that were interested in their bike. Even though you cannot post something NEW, you can reply to existing posts.

2. You will NOT be able to view anyones profile - it's a privacy thing. See #5 below.

3. You will NOT be able to upload a personal avatar. Why? No real reason - it's just a rule that was recommended and that we adopted. It's kind of like a reward for being here more than a day or so.

4. You will NOT be able to upload a personal photo - only Team KTMTalk Members can upload a personal photo. See the NOTE above or click the icon at the top of KTMTalk about becoming a Team KTMTalk Member.

5. You will NOT be able to send a private message (PM) or send an email to any member. Why? We do this to protect the members - spammers were coming to the site and immediately started spamming other members. This also applies to being able to look up a member - as a new member, you will not be able to view any other members personal info. If you are interested in something they have posted, reply to their post and they will decide if they want to communicate with you.

6. If you are a dealer, you may NOT spam - you may reply to threads where people have asked about your products, but creating a new topic just to spam is not allowed.

Once you have posted approximately 6-10 messages or replies, your "New Member" status will change and then you will have full privileges.

Other things: Before posting in ANY area - be sure to read the description of that particular category. For example, if you post a for-sale message in the General area, don't be surprised if you come back later to find that it has been deleted.
