The Beta had done good work the last month time for a major overhaul. Here to the suspension and the bearings. I will to give the shock a rebuild or replacement whatever is possible.

Beside that just a good cleaning job and some minor repairs until I have traced spares for the Bike) here the repair for the broken chain swing arm protector:

stainless steel spring steel rod, bend at both ends as reinforcement for the broken (just has a crack) chain guard:

Then filled with LOCTITE Hysol 3472 with steel reinforcement too, very good stuff:

Sits perfect, next theme is the shock which needs a bump stop, new coating for the body and new paint for the spring ... certainly new oil:

    Other things to do:
    - new seals for the linkage of the swing arm,
    - new speedo drive for front wheel as the old one shows much wear,
    - replacement of some Ti screws as they had damaged heads, (here the ones to the front axle),
    - new inserts to one fork leg,
    - new tires,
    - new technical review and test through German TÜV for road legal approval,
(not that I ever want but then the bike is legal to be use at the Autobahn again ... this is so stupid ... and not necessary with a top speed of 89 km/h ...)

Have a pause to the BETA as the temperatures dropped so much it's too cold to work in the garage, thus I kept going with the Panda instead.

Last time I rode in July (see former post) with the bike it performed well but burnt a lot of plugs so I took a look inside this Franco Morini engine to determine from where it came, the exhaust fumes did not had the strawberry smell the fumes should have (IPONE and Plutoline have two stroke oil with strawberry smell, very nice indeed) instead the fumes had more a motor oil smell so the crank seal should be toast. Sadly the one of the clutch side is between two bearings so you have to split the engine completely to replace the seal:

    So took the engie out:

And behind this was culprit number one:

    The inner basket was shot:

The inner shaft has turned some degrees inside the inner basket and cracket it as you can see. This lead to fine vibration and caused the inner seals of the crank to suck in motor oil as it turned out that it was otherwise in good status. A look after taking the head of tells all:

After we took out all bearings and the crank, first a clean up, left side cleaned, right has to be cleaned:

I did too compare the piston and con-rod to wear but the old piston was still in very good shape, so no replacement this time:

But I was a bit unlucky with the shape of intake and outtake very outdated design and too about the form of the combustion chamber of the head which was too far away to be sufficient so I decided to tune them considerable up and too to fix the inner clutch basket.

Here the outtake and Intake design with the big steps / edges in the intake and outtake, here several horses are gone with bad internal air flow:

Here the old stylish shape of the head:

Now to start with off with the barrel:

Then some Aluminium welding inside the intake and outtake, a bit drilling to the cylinder, barrel back in and a first groove milling to the welds:

No it was time for a prototype head to look up the best form and was taken from Fantic's (200 / 240 / 300) of the beginning and mid eighties:

To archive this Form the head had to get a some Aluminium welded back to the surface to get the combustion chamber smaller the compression is now around 1:10 instead of 1:8,4:

Here a drawing which show the head differences, the milling to the prototype and the head was done with a CNC machine,:
the welding with a laser unit:

Last not least the new inner clutch basket now made of austenistic stainless steel to be sure it will last,:
left the original one which faild duie to too much stress on the right the machined clone:

Had a testing day with a cool bike it's CZ! A CZ trials form 1962, very cool bike quick test ride No 01:

    That bike just have 200cc!

Super nice ride, especially for pre65 feels like a very late twinshock!

I did not have posted for a while so to start with something new, the old style trials bike riding had stuck on me, and it should be something special,
so went to something really old and cool...

ARDIE / DÜRKOPP a brand long forgotten but with a good reputation and where used in the late 50's for the first trials bikes in Germany,
so we started with a frame and a BD 176 engine:

To make it more interesting for you it's a double port engine so one intake but two outlets, the engine has 4 gears, 176cc, and is very light.

The engineer behind this motor was Fritz Gosslau who also invented the first ultra light airplane in theend of the 30's the German Fieseler Storch,
he was in fact Fieslers leading developing engineer, constructed the Fieseler 103 and all other type of cruise missels in the second world war.

After the defeat of Germany and the demolishing of the Fieseler company in Kassel Gosslau went to Dürkopp later Dürkopp / Ardie company and
constructed engines and motorcycles which where much ahead of their time.

The model you see there was made 1953!, (pics 889 x500 pixel for later reference) ?

Looks promising or what you think?

In the end The bike will be at around 150 pounds in weight, will have one of the firt hydraulic forks and too springless hydraulic rear shocks,
special spokes to save even more weight, and the exhaust will be tucked away even more. (The weehls now arefrom a Yamaha TY 175 just
to get a firat rolling chassis ...

Speaking of exhaust, that went many directions in building and experimets also calculationg ...
