Default KX100 Shock Spring Advice Needed.

    Hi Gang,

My son has a 2002 KX100. (Love these bikes!)

The shock spring that is on the bike is too stiff.

My son is 5 feet tall and about 85lbs.

Can anyone tell me which spring is the right one for him?

    Thanks All!

Look in the OEM parts section of Rocky mountain atv/mc or motosport they usually list options for springs softer and stiffer

Use the Race Tech Spring Calculator:

Don't forget fork springs. I have a kid about that weight too. Done alot to the bike. Have you measured sag? I find it about right with preload backed all the way out.

The stock one should be pretty good actually, I remember running the stocker when I was about that size and on a KX supermini. That was a long time ago, but they haven't changed much. I've also setup others more recently. Racetech's calculator (http://www.racetech.com/ProductSearc...aki/KX100/2002) says the ideal is a 4.62kg. Stockers are 4.7kg. I'd keep the stock spring and lighten up the damping a smidge if it's too harsh. Also, if you run the aftermarket linkage that increases travel it effectively reduces spring rate. I have this on the wife's bike. It definitely makes the rear end more plush and seems worthwhile for woods/hs. I'm not sure I'd run it for pure moto.
