Did I read correctly that a DC system needs an ON/OFF switch or the battery will drain? I have a 2004 525 EXC and I installed a Trail Tech 150W upgrade so I could have some charging power to run the cooling fan, headlight and an accessory charger. The original setup has no charging capacity because it's a race bike. No turn signals, just a horn, lights, cooling fan & electric start. However I do NOT have an ON/OFF switch and my Shorai battery went dead as a door nail - I couldn't even charge it back. I had to chuck it and buy a new one. Does the Trail Tech upgrade require an ON/OFF switch - no problem to add one, but I like not having one. I don't leave the bike, just ride it in the trails (requires street legal stuff w/ insurance, plate, etc. I live in South Carolina and things are pretty chill. Anyway, sorry if this question is all Wrong...just peaked my interest. THANKS.

Since you switched from AC that the lights are only on when bike is running, to dc lights connected directly to the battery you need a switch. However the new TT 100 watt stator kits come with a regulator/ rectifier that will depending on how long the timer is set for will shut off automatically.

I also did that TT conversion on my RFS. You do not need a master shut off switch. But you do need to remember to turn everything off when the bike is shutdown. If you are doing that already, you have some kind of parasitic draw that you need to find. Does your accessory charger have an LED indicator? That would be the first thing I'd look at for being the culprit, indicator light or not.

BTW, in stock form, all the RFS's do have decent charging capacity. Just not as much as the TT system. Also, if you hook up a dead Li to a regular lead acid auto charger, it can bring them back from the dead.
