The road I am referring to IS the road from the ski area into town (AJAX). All roads from Taylor Pass North, Richmond Ridge, and West, Express Creek, including Midnight Mine and Little Annies, are county roads and supposedly subject to road worthy vehicles (plated). Pearl Pass to the county line is also included. Pitkin County passed a resolution last year mandating the county patrol the roads and enforce the existing laws. It's silly!!!!! The county does not have the resources to patrol so they have hired a law enforcement official from the forest service. Silly!!!!!! The chances of running into issues are slim but there.

CB south is never an issue UNLESS you run the stop sign or are speeding on Brush Creek and Cement Creek.

We never speed on any road near any town. Always slow around vehicles, pedestrians, and hikers. Absolutely kill the bikes around horses. Never really any issues except the occasional dirty look. We then politely remind those that there are plenty of spaces where we cant ride and to seek those places out if they desire.

Gotcha. I saw a couple signs along the route north of Taylor Pass that said "dot licensed vehicles only" or something like that. I thought that was silliness and who would want to ride/drive licensed vehicles up that way. It was quite a long day with half of the riding on that wide 2 track from Taylor Lake to Aspen. Doubt we'll ever do it again but one of our favorite loops is from Taylor Lake to ride down to the blacktop and back up Pearl Pass. We wanted to do it again this year but with the avalanche closure, we couldn't. Riding from the east side of Cement Creek all the way to town at 20 mph takes FOREVER so we do speed a little bit but always slow down when we come upon others.

And no tickets, that's cool. Glad to hear that being courteous (especially to the non-biking public) paid off!

What's the best resource for finding bike trails in Crested Butte / Silverton / Telluride areas? I'd like to find some. Headed to Moab in 2 months and on the return trip wish to experience Colorado. I'm experience but seek nothing too gnarly due to going solo. Thanks in advance.

The app COTREX is the best quick one... it is pretty awesome and you can download maps so you can still use your phone without cell signal. If that isn't an option, there are good Latitude 40 maps available at the hardware store on the south edge of town. Most trails aren't too bad but the double top trail definitely has a couple gnarly risky sections.

I really like having a paper map in hand. There is a small bookstore right in the middle of Gunnison that has them also. It is on the main street/road heading up to CB. Great little plate lunch type cafe right across the street also. Gee whiz, I'm ready to go right now!!! Been way too long.
