Thread: Best day ever!!!

I cannot speak for the 2009 and newer 50s because my experience is with the previous version with the 3 shoe clutch. I bought his bike pretty beat with an unknown history and then replaced the top end, clutch, coil, and stator with OEM KTM parts. I also rebuilt the carb and replaced the float bowl, float, slide, needle, and jets with OEM KTM parts. His bike only went through 2 pistons in 52 hours which isn't bad at all I believe. For the first 2 years, I ran the adventure spring clutch without any issues. My issues were when I went to the Sr clutch set up with cupped washers. This was when my son became much faster and started racing this past season on it. He put 30 hours alone on the bike this racing season and that included 3 more complete clutches and 1 flywheel. Eventually I ran the stock washer stack and left it because my son was too hard on the aggressive stacks and would wear the clutch out very fast. What I can say is that the OEM stator and coil that I installed when we first got the bike was still in the bike working perfectly when we sold it 52hrs later. Apparently most people have issues with stators and coils and we did not. My sons riding style is pinned everywhere, which apparently is better for the 50's. We never had any overheating issues either.

I gotta rule - If my kid grips and rips it ... Dad keeps it ... All are customs to the custom and gett'in outta control ... After the Super Minis think'in Dad is done - kid can get a job, tune his own bike, and travel with buddies. Well kind'a !!! Lol

This is my rule as well. As long as he is loving racing and pushing himself to get better, I will supply him with the machines and the means to get him to his races and practices. If he decides he wants to back off and just ride for fun, that is great as well. I just will not be buying anymore new bikes for him. He also knows the last bike I will buy will be a 250F. That's only because there's a good chance my son will either race an 85 or supermini, not both. He's too tall to race both classes. Either he will jump from 85 to 250F or he will jump from 65 to supermini, well see when we get to that point. Most likely skip 85 and go to supermini.
