Default '12 TE250 vs '14 TE250 parts, suspension, gas tanks,...

    Hey all!

Looking for some information that Google couldn't find and am hoping you guys can help me out.

    Looking at a '12 TE250 and '14 TE250, which would you take?

I heard nothing but bad things about the 4CS forks on the '14, otherwise a solid bike with a lot of aftermarket support.

For the '12 I can't seem to find a oversize tank(16L) but they have the better CC forks. Aftermarket support is not great.

Both bikes are priced the same with '12 having 70h and '14 having 128h (piston done at 90h).

    Thanks!

Take the 2012 and get the CC forks. They are really good.

I have a 14 TE300. Forks seem fine to me. Not jumping doubles and triples with it. Simply an Enduro bike.

Yes the 12's CC were great forks. Aftermarket support? It's a KTM 300XCW with better forks. You can get anything you want for it. Besides factory plastics and seat.

Fuel tank: you will need to get an acerbis 4 gallon tank for a ktm to get a larger tank. (the tank with the rad scoops built into it.) There are no aftermarket tanks that fit the factory rad scoops. You will need to trim off teh front V on the seat to fit the tank.
4CS forks can be made into an awesome fork by Kreft moto.
I would go with the 14. The plastics are the same as the '14 Husqvarnas, except color.

I have owned both years of Bergs and I would take the 12. The 2012 Berg 2 strokes were an amazing bike considering they were basically a parts bin bike. KTM got really lucky and just put the "good" parts on it. My 2012 TE250 was probably one of the best bikes I ever owned.

One of my riding buddies has a '12 Berg. It's a really good bike and the CC forks feel good right out of the box.

I actually prefer the ergos on the older chassis. KTM tried to spread the newer one out too much front to rear IMO. Something in the rider triangle just doesn't fit me as well no matter where I put the bars, I set it so standing feels balanced and natural and then it feels like the bars are too high and forward when sitting.
The older chassis just fit me better (what the 12 Husa has).

also, if you are going to do some fast riding hitting stuff at speed, the old frame IS stiffer. Not as cushy, but it does not flex either. I do like where KTM is going with the frame design tho, just wish it fit me better.
