This is how tough and motivated Paulo Goncalves was:
    What a loss. :^(

RIP Paulo and at least it ended doing something he loved
On many long journeys have I gone. And waited, too, for others to return from journeys of their own. Some return; some are broken; some come back so different only their names remain.

Tomorrow's stage 8 cancelled for bikes.

Day to mourn one of the most beloved fellow racers.

Toby Price was the first person(competitor) to get to Goncalves but there was apparently nothing he could do to save him. How horrible that must have been for Price. Such a helpless feeling. Kind of morbid, I know, but I am curious as to what injuries were sustained that caused the fatality.

So tough for Price and Svitko as they were on scene attempting to provide medical assistance and be witness to a friend and fellow competitor pass away.

High speed get off, I would assume, and a miriad of possible fatal injuries at the speeds they race at.

A sober part of the Dakar unfortunately.

Just hope everyone remaining stays safe the rest of the way!

Honda now 1-2-3 going into final few days with Brabec poised to be 1st American to win Dakar. It would also put a manufacturer on the top step besides KTM for 1st time in 18 years!

    Laia sniffing top 15!

Beautiful terrain and scenery on this Dakar. Unfortunately, comes with some controversy as Dakar takes money from Saudi to promote their country fraught with human rights issues.

As a longtime fan and someone who absolutely loves the Dakar, it is very disappointing to see the race organizers go the route of the Olympics and follow the money. It's completely contrary to the initial idea of the Dakar.

I'd like to think it's not all about the money and they made a conscious decision to move it out of South America back closer to its roots in Africa.

I try to look at the bigger picture and keep politics etc out of the event its self, hence my Dakar 2020 topic in the Pro Forum on Thumpertalk.

With that said, I'm stoked to see Brabec doing so well and potentially making history as well as other USA riders like Skylar and Short doing well cus IMO it shows events like Dakar and Hard Enduro etc are getting more recognition in North America.

Anyway I'm a Honda guy and I'm also stoked if they could come in top 3 cus IMO long over due

Yeah, it's not fun to think about the money influencing the race, but it's reality. As soon as the manufacturer got involved it was inevitable that money was going to play a huge role in the event.

I remember when Mini told Peterhansel to pull over to let Nani Roma win.

Oh well, I agree, I still love the race, it's still the hardest off road race on the planet, and the riders are unbelievably talented!

Ricky seems to have had some difficulties in stage 11 and has dropped almost 12 minutes to second place Quintanilla. This will certainly make for a tense final day for Brabec and Honda now with just about a 14 minute lead. 3 Americans now in the top 10... Go Ricky, go USA!
