Default 2018 KTM 350 XCF vs 2018 KTM 350 EXC

Time for a new ride after selling my 18 Husqvarna TX300. I want to get back on a 350 (had a 11 350 xcf which i loved)
I have a line on new 18 350 xcf and exc (street legal)

At first I was going to get the XCF, after thinking about it, maybe the EXC is the way to go (street legal and all)
Questions - power output and suspension
    - Is the EXC power output a lot lower?
    - Is the newer PDS suspension decent? (took a lot of tweaking on my 05 and 08 PDS bikes to get them to work properly)

Im a vet, intermediate rider, ex moto guy that now rides single track

Thanks for any input that you have. Greatly appreciated.

I've been on newer 350 XCFs (17 & 19) but not on any EXCs. The XCF makes awesome power, very good down low and revs forever, as expected. In stock form the EXC is going to be choked up and down a fair amount on power (assuming it's got the same emissions equipment in Canada as we do here in the states). There's a few year old thread out there where JD did dyno runs on on a '17 EXC (i believe it was either 450 or 500) and got a ton more HP out of it just by removing the exhaust screen and pulling the reed valve from the air intake. I think a piggyback tuner like JDs, or an aftermarket ECU are the last step to get it up to the power output of the XCF - so in that regard it comes down to your budget.

As far as PDS goes, it has for sure come a long way since your 05/08 bikes. I had 2 05s (450 & 200 EXC) and an 09 300 XCW and didn't realize what I was missing til I got on linkage, so much easier to have a good setting that works fast big hits to slow techy stuff. Even my '15 is a very big improvement and I'm happy on a simple revalve. I have some limited experience on 17+ 2t PDS bikes and they're very very good stock and a lot more versatile that the PDS of old. Of course, linkage is still easier to dial in and be good across a wide range, but PDS is a lot less one dimensional than it used to be.

I thought you could get a plate for the off road bikes in Alberta? No?

The EXC’s are great bikes but it will take a few hundred bucks and some work to make them run like an XCF. Remove the reeds in the intake, remove the screen from the silencer, and add a JD EFI tuner and you’re about 80-90% there.

If you can put a plate on the XCF then you’ve got the better performance right off the bat, at lower cost.

2 things say XCF to me, ex moto rider and intermediate. I was not impressed with the EXC. The only issue with the XCF is tight single track and I am talking a lot of clutch work and first gear only stuff. Otherwise the XCF rocks. If you can ride the bike to its full potential then you are a AA rider. CJ

There is a significant difference in power delivery between the 2011 350XCF you owned with 46.9 hp and the 2018 350XCF with 48.7hp. The 2018 350XCF power delivery starts increasing right off idle and ramps up quickly. Very noticeable difference in power delivery between the two bikes. Both of the XCF's have higher hp ratings than the 2018 350 EXC which produces 34.7 hp. Try to ride one or both of the bikes before purchasing one of them.

So....A mint 2017 KTM 350 EXC with 19 hrs just fell across my path, and the price is cheap, cheap, cheap, guy said dirt biking is just not his thing. There is slip on silencer (not installed) and the rest is stock. Just ordered the (Best Dual Sports Bike) desmog/performance kit. I will ride it for a few months and see if its a viable steed, wife said if I hate it, she is going to take it.
