Default 3 fingers bike on stand or bike on floor

When adjusting chain, is the 3 fingers behind chain glide measurement technique done when bike is on stand or when bike is on floor? Sorry if dumb question.

On the stand. Or measure it with a ruler...55-58mm.

And for us Americans - 2.25" while on the stand. Actually, I like metric better.

Ha, thanks. Wouldn’t ya know it, I measured at the knuckles of my first 3 fingers and it equaled 2.25”. Or 58mm. LOL.

Never understood how anyone could consider a finger or knuckle or worse yet a stack of them to measure anything mechanical.

Welcome to farm mekanikin Victor. Do it all the time, but usually out in the field. "yeah the bolt is about the diameter of my pinky and the length of my ring finger."

My boot is pretty accurate for a foot. 2-3 fingers is a pretty good gauge of other things too......... like my wine glass.

Ever hear Aerosmith- My Big 10 Inch? lol.

seriously moto- measure it with a measuring stick the first time, then see if your knuckles would work there. It does for me.

another if you think your chain is getting loose, push down behind the upper swingarm guard, then push up on the chain after the lower guard, if the chain doesn't hit the swingarm at either place you're still good IMO. Just a quick and dirty check.

To obtain an initial reference, remove the shock, run the swingarm through its travel and check for correct adjustment at tightest point.

The largest Torx socket I have is about 2.2". Works great for adjusting the chain.
