Default Preload, how much is too much?

    Good Afternoon,

I just picked up a 2020 300 xc-w I have not ridden it yet but I have been getting it set up. I was able to get 110mm sag with 2 revolutions of the shock ring. It looks to be an addition 4mm to the 10mm that the manual says is standard so 14mm total? Rider sag 110mm and static 18mm. I suspect new springs are in my future but I want to ride this weekend. What I don't want is the bike to handle like a turd on my first ride.

    Thanks,

Set the spring back to std. it won't handle like a turd but jacking one end or the other up with preload is a sure recipe to bring that about. You look to be close to the end weight for your springs by the numbers but ride it first stock and adjust a turn less preload then a turn more preload and see what you prefer first. None of the new ones I have ridden have been improved with the rear end up, quite the opposite feeling for me.

Give it a turn or 2 back to where your static is around 30 or 32. Yes you need springs, but this way itíll still ride fine for first ride.
