Default Is this clutch toasted? 2017 KTM 50

    Mini Dads,

I need your help, I think these clutch plates are pooched but not sure. I've been suffering no-go-under-load syndrome (NGULS) and think the clutch is part of the problem. The frictions measure .061" and the .047 for the single sided. That falls well within the tolerances outlined by IRP in their epic youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...ture=emb_title

The single sided frictions show a lot of blueing on the smooth sides and the friction side is smooth in places. The steels look better but still have
signs of wear. It's from a low hour bike that had the clutch springs turned to 15 when I got it, then was stolen and recovered. So this poor clutch has been beaten on in its short life.

What's the consensus? Toss em or run em?
I've got some new IRP stage 2 springs and a new belleville washer on the way as the old springs were out of spec.

    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

    P.S The stator tests ok.

Thierry, Is it the frictions or the steels that look bad to you? Just trying to know for future reference? Thanks

I just replaced our 2017 clutch last week. The air gap was ..080 with clutch together. With new steel and frictions ended up .036.... It look to be tha same as yours.

My air gap was .045 @Deerlane How many hours did you get out of the last clutch?
As an experiment, I sanded down the steels to make them flat again which actually took much more than what I thought.
If it fails I'm really considering the IRP triple disk clutch. We're not racing AMA anyhow.

I was original. Started riding at it at 5 so never rode hard until 7 in ama events. 65 hours 2 1/2 years.

Get the ktm oem hard spring and nihilo back beveled washer. Did this to our 50s and never had a problem again. 20hrs of racing on our race bike and had 50hrs on our practice bike and clutches always looked good/measured good. Just an idea to think about befor buying the irp.
