Thread: Ktm wheels question

  1. #1

    Default Ktm wheels question

The bike is ktm 500 2012.

My rear hub is destroyed. It was laced in excel a60 rims, hub was stock.

So one option is smpro platinum wheelset at around 1000aud.other option is get a pair of talon hubs for 680aud and laced them on my excel rims.

Stock hub is out of option because they want too much money for not a good hub.

I will consider ebay hubs if you got good reviews.

What is the best option for my bucks.

The bike is used mostly for enduro, single trails and stuff like that.

    Thanks

Stock hubs are generally good quality. I'm running spare 2005 KTM 500 wheels on my 2018 Husky. Just change wheel spacers on the front.
Rocky Mountain OEM parts is a good source for hubs. It's where I went to build a second set of off road wheels for my 790 ADV R.
Ebay is also an option if you're trying to save, but as always on Ebay, you can't know for sure about the parts you buy.
Ebay has worked for me in the past. Will take some time to find parts from Australian sellers (save on shipping).
Dubya (among others) offers several different hubs from high end to middle-of-the-road if you want new.

G'day mate, i had the same issue, & when i rang Talon in Queensland they said there hubs wouldn't lace up to a standard rim & spokes ? I spoke to my mechanic, & he said he had laced a lot of chinese hubs & the owners have had no problems with them, i bought a pair of hubs of ebay for around Aus$300 & they look pretty good to me.

Did you use the stock spokes?

I've had a pair of Tusk wheels on my 350 6Days for over 100 hrs. Never had to even tighten a spoke. These are quality wheels, no matter where they are made (but I'm not sure where they are made). Priced right also.

I have been using tusk hubs for awhile, I think I built 5 of them, no issues.
