Thread: Aftermarket CDI for RFS motors?

  1. #1

Default Aftermarket CDI for RFS motors?

My 59039031200 CDI is suspect and it's hard to find these anymore. I'd rather not roll the dice on an Ebay pull. Is there an aftermarket CDI that works with the RFS stator, pickup, and coil? Programmable would be nice.

    Thanks for any help,

    --Paul

    Whoa. That would be nice!

Thing is I'm not 100% sure my CDI is the problem with this high (above 8000) RPM cutout I have, but I've checked everything else I can think of, would you have a stock part on your shelf I could try? PM me if so

Ohm the stator, cut the plug wire short on both ends. Ohm the cap

Did all that. Really I'm running out of things to try. I guess I'm gonna spend the afternoon going through the carburetor again, though it feels more like an ignition problem than a fuel problem

BTW it is a Trailtech 100W stator with very low hours. It looks absolutely pristine. The winding to CDI power in (red/blk, red/wht) measures 19 ohms. The trigger pickup (red, grn) is 103 ohms.

The ignition coil also looks perfect, no signs of insulation breakdown or overheating. 0.4 ohm primary, 10.8K ohm secondary measured through the cap.

    Etc.

Looks interesting. Also a search turned up MSD 4217 which is super programmable but expensive, almost $400 US.

One thing, these aftermarket CDI's run off 12VDC, one thing I like about the stock KTM ones is they are powered independently of the bike's DC system.

I had overlooked the fact before our conversation that your bike is the one I bought brand new in 2002.
