    Default Larger Gas Tank?

Who makes a larger tank for the Freeride 250r? Clear is preferable.

Acerbis makes front mounted aux tanks in various sizes. I have one of the smaller/thinner ones on the front of my tagged bike with the headlight sort of strapped to the front of it.

Yeah, I guess an auxiliary tank is the backup plan. I was hoping one of the companies that makes 4ga tanks for the 300 makes a 2.5-3ga tank for the Freeride250.

With the tank fitting between the frame rails, and under the hinged seat, there is no way you'd get an after market larger tank in there.

There isn't a larger tank available from anyone that I have been able to find.

I was going to add that I was able to slightly expand the tank with hot water, a heat gun, and compressed air. If we are doing a ride over 50 miles my wife just carries a couple quarts of fuel in a pocket on her hydration pack until she's able to add it to her tank.

I could not find a larger/desert tank option so I mounted a small MSR fuel bottle using the Surface Mount Bottle Holder from Dryspec behind the rear number plate. I made brackets using aluminum strap to tuck the bottle as close to the inside of the number plate as possible. The bottle sits right where a silencer would sit if the bike were dual exhaust, so it clears the rear tire. I then put two bolts through the bottle holder and number plate for more support. I would like to figure out a more low profile nut and bold combo so the bolts don't stick out so far off the number plate but it works for now. Attachment 39279

I have an Acerbis front number plate auxiliary gas tank that I have used off and on since the 1970s. You can feel the weight but the gas burns off first so it's not a problem (running out of gas is a lot worse!):

I have an Acerbis 2L tank that mounts above/over the handle bars.
It mounts directly above the steering axis so there's no feeling of the weight hanging out in front.

I uses a syphon hose that connects to the fuel tank breather so theoretically it transfers fuel from the aux tank to the main tank as the main uses fuel.
Since Freerides (especially the four strokes) have a tendency to boil the fuel in the main tanks this kills the syphon effect.

Still a good way to carry 2L without much trouble

My buddy has a new 300 with fuel/oil injection that's got just enough miles on it to be "broken in". We noticed that its gas tank is definitely smaller than my 2010 300's 2.9ga tank but assumed the perfect fueling meant better MPG and the same miles/tank. We both filled our tanks to the brim (me on my Freeride 250r) and embarked on a long singletrack ride in the Sergents/Monarch Crest area. We had to cut the ride short because he was getting low on gas while I still had plenty. As we got to the truck his fuel light came on, which we think is the same as having to switch to reserve on the older bikes. Meanwhile, my bike had enough gas for at least another 20 miles. So, apparently I don't need a bigger tank to go on long rides with big bikes.
Now, I'm sure I was riding more efficiently and could get better mileage out of his bike but all I need is for my Freeride to be in the range ballpark with the other bikes I ride with.
