Default Kiros and Hatfield McCoytrails this week.

I am heading down to Kiros and the Hatfield McCoy trails tomorrow for the weekend. Planned to go with a couple of others, but they will not be able to make it. If anyone will be out that way and is interested in a riding buddy let me know. Leaving from Richmond Va tomorrow afternoon and plan on riding Thursday through Saturday. Average skill rider on 2020 Husky 300.
Hope to find others when I get on site.

    Rick

We'll be at kairos the weekend of October 23rd. We are staying in the campground. If you like single track, Kairos will keep you busy for more than a weekend. We rode there for 5 days over memorial day and wanted more. Way more than what's on the map. The owner Jared can point you to the good stuff.

Completed the ride at Kairos today.... now for the brief trip report. Arrived at 9am and found 70 degree weather and not a cloud in the sky for the day. Awesome to be on a dirtbike and not working for a few days. Signed in at the office and was given a map of the property. I was given an extremely through walkthrough of how to find the trails and what I might want to avoid of be cautious of as a solo rider. They also hand drew on the map where to find the single track trails that I was really looking for. I rode about 90 to 95% of the marked trails and several of them that were not on the printed map. Had a great ride and only saw three others on the trails all day. This place is not crowded on this Thursday at least. All of the trails were in good shape and clear to pass. The few trees that were down could be cleared easily or risen around. On one of the single track trails (off camber and steep) the fallen trees were left on the trail to add to the adventure. I liked the challenges, but be aware some of those trails will not be a dirt highway through the woods. They are holding a hard enduro event in the next week or two ( if you are interested give them a call for details). I accidentally found a hard enduro practice loop and decided to give it a shot. After stepping off the bike unexpectedly a couple of times I discovered that hard is definitely the correct description. Still a lot of fun as long as you enjoy LOTS of loose rocks, steep hills and off camber riding. My only suggestion or complaint would be the signage marking the trails. They have used plywood signs nailed to trees and marked the trail numbers with dark green paint. The signs have naturally weathered being in the woods and some of them can be hard to pick up at at speed (at least for my old eyes). On the plus side the printable map can be accessed on a smart phone using “maprika” app. I had cell coverage “Verizon” every time I stopped to check the map and figure out how to get to another trail. Overall it was a great ride and I would recommend making the trip and riding there.
Off to Pinnacle Creek trails next.

We'll have to give Kairos a try. Devils Anse / Buffalo Mountain is our favorite at HM.

The best riding around Hatfield McCoy are the what they call the outlaw trails. The are not as ridden as much as the official trails and are in better shape. The locals can steer you in the right direction.
