    Default Starter problem

I hate asking but pulling my hair out on this.
Everything is new , Bendix, bushings (oem),crown wheel(shimmed). And I just rebuilt everything about 4 rides ago too.
Starter tries to engage, then kicks out,and just spins. Works about 1 out of 20 times cold and about 15 out of 20 times warmed up.

Make sure the crown wheel and bendix are matching. They added a tooth on the wheel at some point...
Try to play with different size shims. I fixed one last month and had the same issue.

It ended up being a bad starter motor, and worn crown wheel.

If your signature is correct, then you should start swapping parts with the 14 200. Swap things one at a time; starter and bendix are the usual culprits. Could be a bad battery as well.

I had a bad crown wheel that the teeth were worn and in turn wore the teeth on the starter. The PO had let it all go too long and caused all the problems.
It would crank inconstantly because of the bad gear mesh.

    Everything is new.
I guess it has to be the battery, even though it's less than a year old shori.

No need to guess, just swap it out with a known good one.

Shorai batteries have a 3 or 5 year warranty, I forget which. First year is 100% replacement, so if it is bad they will send you a new one.

Update, tried the 24v mod. This thing starts like no other ktm I've ever seen. Spins the motor fast enough to start instantly. Used a small Milwaukee 12v battery. Somewhat of a band-aid,I know, but at least we'll get to ride this weekend.

Sorry this is the only pic I took before I covered it in heat shrink and duct tape 😀
I'm looking for an actual motorcycle battery that will fit under the seat for something more permanent.Click image for larger version.

What voltage is your present battery?

Have tried the extra earth strap from starter motor fixing bolt to frame/battery earth?
